Man in court over threats to kill woman

A man is due to stand trial in Donegal for making threats to kill a woman involved as a witness in court proceedings.

A book of evidence was served this week on Jabbar Azizi this week at Letterkenny District Court.

The 32-year-old, with an address at Ath na Ri, Aughnameeney, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim is charged that on June 21, 2021, at a place unknown within the State, without lawful excuse made to Aleen Naseradeen a threat intending that Aleen Naseradeen to believe it would be carried out, to kill or cause her serious harm.

Azizi is further charges that, on June 21, 2021, at a place unknown within the State, did harm, threaten, menace, intimidate, put in fear another person, to with, Aleen Naseradeen who is a witness in proceedings for an offence with the intention of causing the investigation or the course of justice to be obstructed, perverted or interfered with.

Garda Matthew Burke gave evidence of serving the book on Aziz.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for Azizi to be sent forward to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, which commences on October 17.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham administered the alibi warning and made a section 56 order relating to videos of interviews. Judge Cunningham made an order returning the accused for trial.

Legal aid was granted to solicitor Mr Kieran O’Gorman and two legal counsel were assigned in the case. Bail was granted on the same terms and conditions as previously set for Azizi.
