Donegal’s Local Sports Partnership has been awarded €92,500 in new funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund.
€70,000 was allocated to support community sports and physical activity hubs in Donegal. A further €7,500 has been designated for youth leadership programmes and €15,000 for volunteer supports.
The Dormant Accounts Fund enables unclaimed funds from accounts in credit institutions in Ireland to be utilised to support the development of individuals who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, or those affected by a disability.
Welcoming the new round of Dormant Account Funding, Senator Blaney said: “I am delighted to welcome this latest round of funding that proves Fianna Fáil’s commitment in Government to bring the benefits of sport and physical activity to those experiencing disadvantage or with disabilities. Funding for dormant accounts has a real impact on individuals in our communities here in Donegal and this new round of funding will help support those living with disadvantage or with disabilities to have greater opportunities to participate in activities they have a passion for. I am delighted to support Sport Ireland in continuing to boost engagement in physical activities within our local communities.”
Sport Ireland has also announced a second round of Dormant Accounts Funding later this year. With this additional funding, Sport Ireland aims to further enhance and expand its initiatives to reach even more individuals and communities throughout Ireland.
